Kumiko: A Japanese Dining Bar in Chicago

Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar (ダイニングバー)* in Chicago, led by chef, creative director, and beverage visionary Julia Momosé. At Kumiko, food and drink are treated with equal reverence, each crafted with deep intentionality and care.

Guests can enjoy an à la carte menu of refined, ingredient-driven dishes alongside a distinctive seasonal tasting menu, which features four thoughtful pairing options: light cocktails, stirred cocktails, spiritfree, and Japanese sake.

Through Kumiko, Momosé hopes to expand the understanding of Japanese cuisine—showcasing its soulful breadth, from the elegant and delicate to the comforting and fried. It is cuisine that is both artful and everyday, reserved and expressive.

Whether you join us to savor some cocktails, or walk in for a lovely dinner with friends, Kumiko welcomes you with warmth and gratitude.

The dining room is currently open to guests 18 and older. Reservations are required for the tasting menu, and are strongly recommended for à la carte dining. We look forward to welcoming you with warmth and gratitude.

from $60.00

Presenting a list of spectacular, limited cocktails featuring some of our most notable spirits. These cocktails are nostalgic, in a way, as there was a time when we could mix with ingredients like Yamazaki 12 Year, Hibiki 12 Year, and other age-statement-carrying Japanese whiskies without a second thought. Rather than keeping them on a shelf, we want to share them mixed into some of our favorite cocktails.

COCKTAILS:

Gray Wolf // two servings
A Momose signature that regulars of GreenRiver will remember from back to 2015. The first iteration was crafted with Hibiki 12 Year. While we cannot find this whisky at the moment, here is a version for those seeking a touch of nostalgia.
Suntory Yamazaki 12 Year, Bénédictine D.O.M., Umé Vinegar, Demerara, Angostura bitters

Yamazaki Vieux Carre // two servings
This is one of Julia’s favorite cocktails. She had the opportunity to create a Dealer’s Choice cocktail for omochi-kaeri, and it was so good the cocktail inspired this list.
Suntory Yamazaki 12 Year, Marie Duffau Hors d'Age Bas Armagnac, Don Gonzalo Oloroso VOS 20 Year, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, Bénédictine D.O.M., Peychaud’s bitters

Nikka from the Barrel Old Fashioned // two servings
A special version of the classic for this moment.
Nikka from the Barrel Japanese Whisky, Kanbara ‘Ancient Treasure’ Yamahai Junmai Genshu Koshu 10 Year, Okinawa Kokutō, Angostura bitters
