Kumiko: A Japanese Dining Bar in Chicago

Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar (ダイニングバー)* in Chicago, led by chef, creative director, and beverage visionary Julia Momosé. At Kumiko, food and drink are treated with equal reverence, each crafted with deep intentionality and care.

Guests can enjoy an à la carte menu of refined, ingredient-driven dishes alongside a distinctive seasonal tasting menu, which features four thoughtful pairing options: light cocktails, stirred cocktails, spiritfree, and Japanese sake.

Through Kumiko, Momosé hopes to expand the understanding of Japanese cuisine—showcasing its soulful breadth, from the elegant and delicate to the comforting and fried. It is cuisine that is both artful and everyday, reserved and expressive.

Whether you join us to savor some cocktails, or walk in for a lovely dinner with friends, Kumiko welcomes you with warmth and gratitude.

The dining room is currently open to guests 18 and older. Reservations are required for the tasting menu, and are strongly recommended for à la carte dining. We look forward to welcoming you with warmth and gratitude.

BALI: On a balmy day in Bali, the soothing aroma of frangipani incense escapes from a local temple while fragrant champaca petals rain from the sky, a heavenly blend of smoke and light warm floralcy. Top notes of orange and sweet saffron sing above a heart of magnolia champaca and peppery elemi while notes of smoky incense and patchouli hum quietly at the base.

KYOTO WOODS: Kyoto’s bathhouses, lined with fragrant hinoki, inspired this meditative blend of soothing woods. Top notes of fresh cypress and a hint of cardamom open up to a woody heart of fresh hinoki, creamy santal, and powdery orris root, while a background of earthy patchouli and musk add balance and depth.

MARRAKECH: Leathery, honeyed notes of saffron emanate from Place Des Épices, the spice market in the heart of Marrakech, commingling with a soft background of myrrh and sandalwood incense, an olfactive escape to the aromatic souks of Marrakech. Top notes of saffron, elemi, and cistus dance over a heart of cashmere wood and birch anchored by a rich resinous base of incense, olibanum, and myrrh.
